Dairygold Supplier Wins Overall Quality Milk Award

4th October 2017

Tipperary suppliers John and Maria Walsh, along with their children Brendan, Claire and Helena, were deservedly crowned the overall winners of the national Quality Milk Awards which were held in Dublin on Wednesday, October 4th.

The National Dairy Council & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards is an annual national award programme which recognises standards of excellence in dairy farming with nominations of top suppliers invited from Co-Operatives across Ireland.

The Walsh family, 6th generation farmers from Cahir with a herd size of 104, was nominated for this year’s awards having won Dairygold’s Milk Quality Award in May of this year.

The farms of the 14 finalists underwent a detailed assessment of their milk quality test results and technical reports spanning a full 12 month period.

They were also scrutinised in all areas of their farming operations including animal health and welfare, dairy and parlour facilities, continuous improvement, hygiene, farm safety and sustainability.

Congratulating the Walsh family for their dedication and commitment was James Lynch, Dairygold Chairman said:

“We’re delighted for the Walsh family whose passion and dedication to achieve the highest standards is evident in all aspects of their farm and family.

“We were really pleased to present our own Milk Quality Award to the John, Maria and their family in May of this year and to nominate them for the national Milk Quality Awards.

“We’re very proud today to join them as they celebrate the top award and recognition in Ireland for milk quality. They have been tremendous ambassadors for Dairygold not just throughout this competition but in the standards that they strive for and maintain each day.”
